Fleet Captain - Posted on Wednesday, March 21, 2012

Just a quick note to thank Cole for trying to help out the club and do something good for all our members. What I have learned from my 8 years as a member and growing up at CPYC as a kid was that Cedar Point lives by it's member involvement and we have a really good group of volunteers that make our club function smoothly and fun to be at. If you have been on a committee you know all the hard work that goes into making all these things we do go so smoothly. If you would like to help out this summer please don't hesitate to get in touch with someone and volunteer. Giving back is what it is all about and I know that CPYC has given me tons of enjoyment and life lessons over the years.

I look forward to being the fleet Captain and serving you, and I hope that you feel open to come forward with any help or opinions to make this a woderful year for all.

To be the Cruising class rep for Race and Regatta you gottta- - Posted on Wednesday, March 21, 2012

At the beginning of each year, the Committee jointly prepares the Club's NOR and SIs, reviews and approves applications for all regattas including the NOR and SIs that will control these events and develops the master list of race management responsibilities of our members. Much of this work has been started, if not completed, for 2012.

Once this material finalized, it is the responsibilities of each individual fleet representative to prepare drafts of the documents that will govern the racing programs that each fleet will manage in behalf of the BOG, our "Organizing Authority". For the Cruising Class these drafts will include seven separate NOR and SI&As for the Summer Sunday Series, Aunt Kate and Uncle Dan Series, Wednesday Night Series, the One Design Regatta, Flournoy Cup, Eaton's Neck and Middle Ground Race and finally, the 2012 Qualification Requirements and Scoring Policy. The objective here is to insure that the drafts compile with the RRS and the CPYC NOR and SIs that you and the R&R committee have already executed.

These drafts should then be circulated to the appropriate C.C. fleet members; Fleet Captain, Scorers (Halsey & Sharon) all known PROs and event Chairs and Rich our Ratings Chair. Following their review and approval, all these draft documents are then submitted to the full R&R Committee for review. You'll find that this is a rather arduous process as all eight of the Club's fleets will be submitting comparable sets of documents. This  is a large stack of paper for the Committee to nit pick through.

With agreement of the R&R, all material is forwarded to the BOG for final approval and they can then be posted for our members.

Quoted from Paul Iffland who recently stepped down after many years of arduous work for the Cruising class. Thank you Paul!!

Even after hearing this I still volunteered to take on this task. If you would like to send your thoughts regarding our racing I will forward them on the the committee and if you would like to buy Paul a beer for all his hard work I hear he likes the green stuff!

Palmer Steps Down as Captain, Walker Steps Up - Posted on Sunday, March 18, 2012

Cole Palmer has stepped down as Cruising Class Captain due to work commitments, and Bill Walker has stepped up to take his place.

Cole, who will stay on as treasurer, said he couldn't "dedicate the time needed to assure that the Cruising Class has the best summer possible. The good news is that Bill Walker, our Executive Officer, is completely engaged and interested in making sure that happens."

Bill Walker thanked Cole for the work he's put in and said he appreciated that Cole would continue as treasurer. "I'm looking forward to working with him and the rest of the Cruising Class to have a great season of racing and social events."

Frost Point Series - Pequot/ Saugatuck/ Cedar Point - Posted on Monday, January 23, 2012

Frost Point Series

On  Saturday, August 20’th, the first “Revived” Frost Point Series race was sailed by three boat teams from Saugatuck Harbor YC, Pequot YC and Cedar Point YC.   Saugatuck served as race committee and host for an after race gathering.

The purpose of the race was to re-establish a friendly competition between the three clubs, where the objective was to have an even number/club of relatively evenly matched boats competes and the Club winner determined by the Club scoring the lowest points on a combined boat basis.   Wind was typically light for a warm August, but fortunalty reasonably steady out of the S/SW and the race committee was able to get in three races.

The winner of this first outing was Cedar Point Yacht Club consisting of Norm Dean- Just Plain Nuts, Rick Lyall- Storm and Afterglow- Bill & Lucy Walker with 37 points, Pequot was second with 42 and Saugatuck Harbor third, with 55.
