| Team Racing Opportunity for CPYC - All Skill Levels Welcome! - Posted on Monday, June 01, 2009

| | Photo courtesy of Dan Nerney |
Cedar Point has been invited by fellow clubs and the YRA of Long Island Sound to participate in the "Summer Solstice" team racing series on Tuesday nights in June. Various clubs in the area host this series, so that clubs have two away and two home nights. The format is to foster more interest in team racing, and it's for all skill levels.
Racing is primarily in Ideal 18s, which are very simple and forgiving small keelboats. The racing is very casual, and a pizza and beer debrief usually follows. For those who might skipper at CPYC but are tentative about team racing, these boats are an 'ideal' segue - you can crew for a more experienced skipper at one or more of these events. It's also a great opportunity for us to increase the visibility and camaraderie of our club and fleet, and anyone who's interested should contact V-15 fleet captain, Jamie Ewing. Our first race is this Tuesday evening, 6/2, at Noroton YC in Darien, with sailing the following week at Riverside in Greenwich. The last two weeks of the month, CPYC is scheduled to host NYYC and Larchmont (in our Vanguards)

| 2009 CPYC Sailing Instructions Posted and with Printer - Posted on Sunday, May 17, 2009Chairman of Race and Regatta, Brian Joyce has posted the 2009 Sailing Instructions. New features provide PROs with the tools to integrate multiple short races for some fleets while setting longer course racing for other fleets. Flexibility is the hallmark. These changes will require understanding by Race Officers so that the changes can be used effectively to create more fun on our Race Circles. To have a look, click here.
Comprehensive new Race Guidelines will also be published shortly as the Race and Regatta Committee prepares for an evening seminar focused on Race Management, to be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2009. All members are invited and encouraged to attend so that when your turn on Race Committee comes around you will be fully informed.
The Race and Regatta Committee, under Brian's leadership, is working to continue to improve the quality of race management and train the next generation of PROs. Creating Confidence and Pride while making RC fun is part of this important transformation. RC responsibilities are part of what makes CPYC a great Club. Participation on RC enhances our understanding of the racing rules and the process by which racing is administered.
All members are encouraged to read the new Sailing Instructions and Race Guidelines, participate in the training sessions and enjoy your Race Committee duties as an integral part of your CPYC Club Membership.
