Introduction

The Cruising Class at CPYC runs a full schedule of racing, cruising and social activities for boats of various sizes.
Handicap racing has been a fixture at CPYC for over 100 years and complements our extensive one-design racing program. Weekly racing and cruising activities occur throughout the spring, summer and fall. Our beautiful, well protected, deep water basin is one of the finest on the Sound! The addition of our new 5 Ton crane has made the access for many fleets a breeze. Inquiries about joining should be directed to Fleet Captain Derek Ettie

Destination Events
Planned for the 2015 season are several destination races, and perhaps even a club cruise (which isn't technically a race, but hey, this is CPYC). Destination races are slated for June 13, July 18 and Sept 12.  The first of these is an overnighter (June 13) to Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club in Oyster Bay to join them for their annual "Cuban Night."   Contact James Coffman for further details, including mooring information.

Cedar Point ONEDesign Regatta (May 16-17 & May 30-31)

CPYC’s Cruising fleet hosts the 14'th annual ONEDesign Regatta. Now one of LIS's premier regattas with many exciting One design classes being represented over two weekends of fantastic sailing. Click Here for More Information. The enormous interest in sport boat racing has led to record numbers of sailors at Cedar Point’s annual One Design Regatta in recent years, traditionally held the weekend immediately following Memorial Day.  In order to meet the increasing demand, the event has been expanded to two weekends in May.  The weekend of May 16-17 will be devoted to sport boats and dinghies, including J/70s, Viper 640s and Lightnings.  Stars, Thistles, Flying Scots and Melges 24s will be welcome to join in the fun if they can muster at least six boats each.  Two weeks later the keel boats will race on May 30-31.  Here we are expecting J/109s, J/105s, J/30s, Beneteau 36.7s, and possibly Soverel 33s.  Stay tuned to the Cedar Point web site or reach out to Regatta Chair Halsey Bullen for more information.

Jackie Flournoy Cup (June 21)

In honour of one of our most famous women skippers we have a race for women only at the helm. Find some crew and come out to show support for the huge influence female sailors are having in the sport of sailboat racing! Come celebrate Father's Day on the race course, with refreshments and prizes following. See the Cruising Class Library page for Notice of Race.

Westport Invitational Night Race (July 31)

Take advantage of a full moon for perfect night race conditions. The start is Friday evening off Cedar Point before sunset with a course of around 20-30 miles. An informal crew get together party will be held prior to harbor start with food and drink. Nothing's more magical than night sailing! Join in and see... See the Cruising Class Library page for Notice of Race.

Frost Point Challenge Cup (TBD)

An annual event between local clubs (Saugatuck Harbor, Pequot, Black Rock and CPYC) raced off Frost Point with three boats representing each club. A fun day of sailing followed by a party for all at the host club to promote comraderie and the sport of sailing. If you are interested in representing CPYC please contact James Coffman.
