Cedar Point is the home of Flying Scot Fleet 177; the 2008 Flying Scot fleet of the year.
In 2011 Cedar Point hosted the Flying Scot North American Championships.
During each season our race schedule consists of a Saturday summer series and the three Commodore’s Cups held over the holiday weekends. The format for Saturday racing ranges from two or three races on the main CPYC course to Super Saturdays which consist of numerous short races with many mark roundings and multiple starts.
Fleet 177 was founded in 1992 and has a passion for evangelizing Scot sailing. In 2005 the fleet came to Cedar Point where it is one of seven one-design fleets. For a full history of Fleet 177 CLICK HERE.
The Flying Scot is a 19ft day sailer designed in 1957 by Gordon K. “Sandy” Douglass. The Flying Scot is a strong national class that prides itself in family sailing. Raced by a crew of two or three, many teams are husband/wife or parent/child. There have been over 6000 boats built, currently new Scots are identically constructed by Flying Scot Inc. Strict class rules prevent changes that could make older boats obsolete. The class is well known for welcoming new sailors and helping them improve; and for its strong friendships and great social events.
In 1998, the Flying Scot was awarded the honor of being included in the American Sailing Hall of Fame. The Flying Scot has been used many time by US Sailing for its US Women's (Adams), US Men's (Mallory), and Championship of Champions regattas. Most recently, the Scot was selected as the boat for the Championship of Champions in 2011, the Adam's Cup in 2011, and the Mallory Cup in 2009. Andrew Eagan (Skipper) and brother Marcus Eagan won the 2011 North American Championship hosted by Cedar Point. They were also winners of the 2011 Championship of Champions held at the Corininthian Sailing Club in Dallas, TX.
