June Regatta update - Posted on Tuesday, June 24, 2008
IMG_7957.JPGThe start of the 2008 regatta season at CPYC has been a busy one. The events have enjoyed terrific turnout and quality on and off water execution. These events are enjoyed by CPYC fleet members and visiting sailors. Everyone has been so busy competing and running these regattas it has been hard to keep up with the reporting by  regatta chairs. Results are posted to the to the fleet library sections. As reports become available they will be linked.

The Early Bird Regatta saw 14 Flying Scots with Al and Katie Terhune winning and 14 Lightnings with Dave Peck from Niantic in first and Gianni Cuccio in second. The Thistle districts had 20 teams and the CPYC team taking the top spot was Brad Thompson, Matt Kreuzkamp and Kristen Barnard. The Lightning Districts had 28 boats and Dave Peck was again the winner of that event.

On 6/28 the CPYC Challenge Cup team defends against Noroton and Larchmont Yacht Club teams in match racing, team racing and fleet racing.

V15 Nationals at Larchmont on 6/14 and 6/15 - Posted on Friday, June 13, 2008
A small contingent from the V15 class will be off to Larchmont YC for what may be the largest V15 Nationals to date with over 100 boats entered. CPYC members racing are Ian Gill (with Madeline), Ken Charles (with his son) and Chris Johannessen (with Donna Marie Cippolene).

Unfortuanately, there was no action to follow as the regatta was plagued by no wind and no racing. The V15 class has scheduled a "do-over" on 7/18 - 7/20 coincideing with Larchmont Race Week. Entrants' fees already paid will be rolled over to the new date...stay tuned.

Perfect Racing Conditions for the final day 3 of the OneDesign Regatta - Posted on Friday, June 06, 2008
cypc_Our Race Committee.JPGRacers were greeted on the racecourse each day by PRO Paul Iffland and Eric Passero. These men and their support staff made good things happen in trying conditions throughout the first 2 days and closed with a terrific day 3 that left racers smiling at the end of the regatta.

Day 1 -  The M 30 Class kicked off the OneDesign Regatta into high gear on Friday 6/7/08. Paul Iffland and his RC ream popped off 4 square w/l 4 races in light air. Mark roundings were close with some having the entire fleet within a 2 minutes spread. Multiple lead changes occurred on most legs of the day. At days end, competitors enjoyed a CPYC style home cooked southern meal of barbeque pork, chicken and salmon prepared by Vice Commdore Nelson Stephenson. In addition, competitors enjoyed the Kattack replay of their races, tracked by individual transponders on each boat. Allen Clark, of photoboat had a slide show going of the days close action as well.

Day 2 was tough for racers with light air that challenged all. The RC served up 3 w/l 4 races for the M 30 and Level 72 classes. The J105 and J30 classes were given 2 races. At the conclusion of racing there was a lobster dinner and party featuring CPYCs own house band.

Day 3 was perfect sailing weather; sunny and 7 - 12 knots. The racers were anxious to get going and were on the course going up and down the wind prior to the arrival of the Race Committee. Racing commenced on schedule with the first warning signal at 1100 am. cypc_2008 _OneDesign_Sun 253.JPGFour races for the M 30s and three races in each of the other classes were held.  The racing was tight and the day turned some fortunes around for the the leaders.
Everything was wrapped up on the water around 3 PM and all boats were tied up when a thunderstorm hit as the awards were being given out.

For the final regatta results, click here.

The events official photographer was Allan Clark of Photoboat. He and Daniela shot all weekend, ran slide shows and supplied the beautiful awards that were given to the winners. To view and or purchase the event photos, click here.

Race and Regatta's call to Members - Posted on Wednesday, June 04, 2008

CPYC has a long-established tradition of excellence in race management. This did not happen by accident. It is the direct result of the involvement of our entire membership. Year in and year out, each member has been expected to serve on at least one race committee, in order to develop his or her race management expertise, as well as to provide the top notch racing that each of us has come to expect.

Initial race committee assignments are established by Race and Regatta. Our best efforts do not result in a schedule that accommodates everyone. When a conflict arises,

Vice Commodores Cup - Posted on Tuesday, May 27, 2008
dgm_080521-2213.jpgThree perfect days of Sailing at CPYC. Based on the crowd present at the Vice Commodores Cup Barbeque, the weekend was a resounding success. It ended with some glasses for the winners, a nice sunset, fine weather and good family fun. The statistics will come later but to one observer the food lines seemed as long as they ever were and the beer just kept flowing.

There was a a crop of toddlers racing around in sacks and parents wondering how soon it would be for them to be in Optis.

For complete results, check out the fleets' library & race result pages.
