This year we have added an online registration method with the link above.  It is the preferred way to register and makes the process much easier and less chance for error!

Looking forward to a great summer program this year.  Read below for more information!

Cedar Point Yacht Club 2010 Junior Sailing Program

The program runs Monday, June 28 through Friday, August 20, 2010.  All courses are available for 4 or 8 weeks. 4 week course is available for first 4 weeks only, ending July 23, 2010.  Preference is given to sailors enrolling in 8 week course.

Morning Classes (all Optimists):  8:30 AM – Noon, Monday- Friday

1 . Optimist Beginner and Intermediate: For first and second year sailors age 8-14 years old. Divided by  age and experience level. Each child sails his or her own 8 ft, one sail, Opti dinghy.  CPYC has 4 Optis available for charter and can put you in touch with other charters. Many families purchase their own boats.

2.  Racing Optimist : For more advanced Opti sailors age 9-14 who are ready to focus on racing.  Requires approval by Head Instructor and requires at least 16 weeks prior sailing experience. Almost all sailors own their boats.

Afternoon Classes (Pixels, 420s and Laser Standard/Radial): 1:00- 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday

1.     Pixel: Good transition for intermediate sailors age 12-14 between Opti and more advanced 420/Laser. 14 ft. 2 person boat with main, jib and spinnaker.  CPYC has 2 club Pixels for charter. Others are privately owned.

2.     Junior 420:  For sailors age 13-18 who are less experienced than the Racing 420 sailors, are not yet JSA age 14 and eligible for Racing 420s, or who do not want to race.  14 ft. 2 person boat with main, jib, spinnaker and trapeze.  CPYC has 6 club 420s available for charter. Some are privately owned. Junior 420 class may be combined with 420 class, depending on numbers.

3.     420:  For sailors age 14-18 with prior experience in Opti, Pixel, Laser or similar boat and who meet JSA age/weight requirements. Same boats as Junior 420, but this class focuses on racing.

4.     Laser Standard/Radial: For sailors age 14-18 with prior experience in Opti, Pixel, Laser or similar boat and who meet JSA age/weight requirements.  14 ft. 1 person boat. Laser Standards/Radials are taught together.  Choice depends on size and experience--Radial has smaller sail area more appropriate for juniors in 100 - 150 lb weight range. Standard is for larger, more experienced sailors.  CPYC has 2 Lasers available for charter this year for the first time.  Most Lasers are privately owned.
