Cedar Point Juniors Rock at JSA Fall Meeting

4 of our 10 Junior PHRF sailors accepted their 2nd place in Dorade Trophy, 1st place in Beach Point Overnight Race (Class A) and the JSA Seamanship Trophy at Larchmont Yacht Club on Wednesday, October 29.   This award is based on a club's cumulative record in both the Dorade and Beach Point races and the teams' cumulative scores on both the JSA Navigation and  Seamanship Tests-- which means the kids rock both on and off the water! CPYC has won this award only twice in its long JSA history -- the last time in 2005 when the juniors won the Dorade and Beach Point with Revelation.  Any big boaters out there looking for crew???

Dylan Abel, CPYC Laser Radial sailor, accepted the Clinton M. Bell Trophy awarded by JSA to the junior in open events with the best overall race record in either 420 , Laser full rig and radial classes. Dylan won with an overall regatta score of 97.5%  (translation: he won almost everything he went to!)  This marks the first time since the Bell Trophy's inception in 1950 that a CPYC junior has won it.

Cedar Point Juniors Shine at Early Regattas - Posted on Monday, July 21, 2008

Cedar point juniors sailed in a series of regattas the second week of June and the results were impressive!  It is hard to remember Cedar Point fielding a team of such depth and quality across a broad spectrum of fleets and classes.

Law Trophy was held at Indian Harbor for sailors top sailors in their respective fleets.  In the Laser Radial class, Dylan Abel finished 2nd overall with first place finishes in the first two races of the six-race series.  James Kammert (6th), Christian Whitmer (7th) and David Forsey (8th) all finished in the top half of the fleet.

June 25, 2008:     After a full week of instructor training, boat rigging, scrubbing and cleaning, Cedar Point's Junior Sailing Program has officially begun this week.  Monday was hazy and hot; not bad weather for for the annual swim test and an opportunity for skippers and crew to get reacquainted.  The instructors are learning names and getting into another season of sailing.  A special welcome to first-time instructor, Brendan Kopp who joins our experienced instructors returning for their second and third summers.

Head instructor, Hugh McBride, reports that the winds on Wednesday, June 25 are moderate and steady - perfect conditions to get out on the water and build skills.  Parents and sailors are urged to review regatta schedules for Optis, Pixels Lasers and Club 420s.

Parents shold also note that the Parent of the Day (POD) schedule has been posted at left and that the success of our program depends upon honoring our volunteer committments.  Anyone with questions about POD responsibilities should check their parent handbook or talk with a member of the Junior Sailing Advisory Committee - Ann Willbanks or Patti Palmer.
