Welcome to Cedar Point YC's Vanguard 15 Fleet Minimize
Vanguards sailing upwindThe Vanguard 15 Fleet at CPYC is the place to satisfy your racing fix. We now have over 45 boats in the fleet raced by sailors of all skill levels, from beginning racers to Collegiate Sailors.

Our program includes a variety of racing formats including fleet racing, team racing and "Buddy Days" which mix fun races with coaching and instruction.  Races are scheduled on Thursday evenings (first race at 6:30 PM) and Sunday afternoons (crew race and practice at 1:00 PM, first scored race at 1:30, no start after 4:00) from mid-May through September,  plus regattas on the last day of each holiday weekend (first race at 1:00 PM).  We typically have 10 to 15 boats on the starting line.

Our fleet includes college sailors and junior sailing coaches, couples racing together, junior sailors, parents racing with their kids, and a range of sailors from age 10 to 70, all having a great time.  Where else can you follow champions around the course and even hope to beat them occasionally?  Five to ten collegiate style races are sailed each day, often including a "crew race" which doesn't count but gives our crews an opportunity to learn to drive.

The Vanguard 15 is an exciting two person planing dinghy which is easy to handle and doesn't depend on the size or strength of the sailors. Its clean and simple design cuts maintainance to a minimum and its strict one-design rules eliminate the need to endlessly tune the boat or spend big money on tweaks. It's a rapidly growing class and is the boat of choice for team racing.

Cedar Point has two fleet boats (competitively maintained with good sails) which are available to club members and guests for occasional use. Come on out and see how much fun it is!  If you are new to the boat, try joining us on one of our monthly "Buddy Days" and get coaching and boat handling tips from sailors at the top of our fleet.  To reserve a boat call the CPYC office at (203) 226-7411 and follow the voice mail instructions.
