Cedar Point Yacht Club works hard to keep at the front of the pack when it comes to racing
We offer quality and competitive racing year-round with summertime weekday and weekend one-design and handicap racing and on-design frostbite racing through the winter. CPYC promotes high-quality, friendly competition, good sportsmanship, and camaraderie among sailors. In 2019 over 400 race management officials ran hundreds of races.
In addition to our vibrant racing, junior sailing, and women's sailing programs we host an extensive regatta schedule including numerous regional and national championships. Each year we host one of the premier big boat and centerboard one-design regattas.

Cedar Point Yacht Club schedules and hosts an extensive offering of one-design fleet racing. The fleet of classic Atlantic Class boats sails Saturday and Sunday every weekend they are not at an away regatta. In 2019 that was thirty-one days of racing. Thistles, Lightnings and Flying Scots race Saturdays and most days of the big summer Cup weekends. Race location and course length is specifically targeted to how these fleets want to race.
Thistles had over fifty races at Cedar Point in 2019.
Vanguard 15s gather Thursday evenings from before Memorial Day to after Labor day. In 2019 there were a dozen qualifiers with over a hundred races sailed total. Vanguards also sail Sunday's throughout the summer. J/70s and Stars join the Atlantics for their own starts on select weekend days thoughout the summer. Access our sailing fleets to learn more about any fleet and get contact info for their fleet captains. Browse the race calendar to see what day and time the fleets race so you can see the fleets in action.
Junior sailing is the legacy Cedar Point Yacht Club leaves going forward by leading today. In 2020 Cedar Point Yacht Club supports the Junior Sailing Association with the hosting of several key regattas in support of juniors.
The biggest event of the week is Wednesday Night Racing with the Cruising Class Fleet. Thirty-six qualifiers made 2019 one of the best years on record. Racing is followed by the hugely popular weekly dinner – a do not miss event. Visit the Cruising Class pages to learn more. Cedar Point Yacht Club also hosts one of the Yacht Racing Association's premier handicap distance races, a series of five navigation races, and a selection of premier weekend regattas all designed to provide the handicap cruising class owner with a selection of great racing opportunities. Browse the race calendar to learn more about the racing opportunities for the owner of a handicap yacht.
Competing in a race is just half the story. The other half ... which arguably comes first, is race management. Race management is an area Cedar Point Yacht Club attempts to excel. In 1998 CPYC was awarded the St. Petersburg Yacht Club Trophy for excellence in race management by US Sailing. CPYC also received the One-Design Club Award from US Sailing for administrative excellence, fleet growth, creative programming, regatta support, member contribution — at regional, national and international levels in 2002, 2007, and 2018. We take running racing and regattas seriously. And that means extensive training, logistical support, and operational excellence. Whether it is the planning and scheduling of events, the creation of the race management documents, or the allocation of race support equipment ... our dedicated volunteer Race and Regatta Committee has the answers. Training sessions for race and protest management are already planned for 2020 as is the schedule of events. Cedar Point Yacht Club's racing program counts on active volunteering by all members. Many members say Race Management volunteering turns out to be one of the most rewarding activities in which members participate. Reach out to any member of your Race & Regatta Committee to discuss ways you can get involved.
